VIDEO: Watch Robert Downey Jr. Dedicate People's Choice Win to Late Stan Lee

Robert Downey Jr. has had a very successful year. Since his performance in Avengers: Endgame, in which his character, Tony Stark, makes the ultimate sacrifice to save the planet against Thanos, he has received an outpouring of love and appreciation from fans and colleagues alike.
Which is why it is no surprise that the Iron Man star took home the People’s Choice Award for Male Movie Star of 2019, ComicBook.com reports. Though the actor has stated in the past few months that he knew it was time to leave the long-time role, fans have been in mourning over the loss of such a central character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The award was clearly a way to show their appreciation.
In the video above, the 54-year-old actor graciously accepts the prize, and uses the opportunity to dedicate it to a very important person. He states, “Well look, I just got to come up here and open the show so I'll just say thank you Disney, thank you Marvel, thank you Russo brothers," adding, "And most of all, to the late, great Stan Lee, this is for you, buddy.”
The actor also revealed earlier in the evening that, in the final scene of Endgame when Stark defeats Thanos, he had pitched to the Russo Brothers that he should say “Oh snap!” instead of the legendary line, “I am Iron Man.” Though the former would have been a hilarious salute to Stark’s sense of humor, I think they inevitably made the right choice.
And it looks like the fans did as well, for the People’s Choice Awards.
