Star Wars filmmakers have said it before, and they will say it again: don’t believe everything you read on the internet. While there are always thousands of rumors they could shut down at any point, recently a big one is that the latest film, The Rise of Skywalker, has an alternate ending.

ComicBook.com reports that Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo took to his Twitter to put out the fire surrounding the speculation that the film was originally meant to end with Rey (Daisy Ridley) dying and Ben Solo (Adam Driver) living.

"A billion years ago, when [Star Wars: The Force Awakens] was getting started, I pitched an [Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker] ending with Ben living on the island in Luke's place," Hidalgo posted. "But that was never anyone's call other than the filmmakers'. And what's in IX was in there once production started. So be wary of 'different ending' tales."

Because the film wrapped up a 42-year saga, those behind the camera knew that pleasing every person in every generation of the fandom would be impossible. And while there was likely a lot of debate on how the iconic story would end, Hidalgo’s post confirms that once they decided on the finale, they stuck to it.
