Though Adam Driver is a very convincing villain as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars franchise, it is hard to find him completely terrifying. With Driver’s tall, dark, and handsome face, not to mention his ex-Jedi-trained bod, fans have found it difficult to look at the character in disgust. Hence all the people shipping him and Rey since the beginning of the recent trilogy.

But Kylo Ren being an absolute stud wasn’t always in the works for the complicated character.

Digital Spy reports that Star Wars Visual Effects Director, Christian Alzmann, recently posted his original artwork for the character on Instagram, and the result will make you view Kylo in a completely different light.

The insidious artwork is clearly inspired by Kylo Ren’s grandfather, Darth Vader. He is mostly machine, with graying skin, dead eyes, and a headpiece that would make any Mortal Kombat character jealous.

Though Alzmann’s original artwork above wasn’t used for the character, it forces you to look past Driver’s good looks and see Kylo Ren's darkness more clearly.

We'll see how Kylo's storyline continues when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker debuts on Dec. 20, 2019.
