In the 2012 film The Avengers, Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., says in one of the scenes that he will continue fighting as long as the gang “hits a good shawarma restaurant he knows in the neighborhood.”

Later, in a hilarious and now-iconic post-credits scene, we see Iron Man, Captain American (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), stuffing their heroic faces full of pita, as casual as any after-work dinner.

However, Cap doesn’t eat, and is hiding his face with his hand from the view of the camera. Fans might've wondered over the years if he was just not hungry, or if wasn't a fan of shawarma.

Well, Entertainment Weekly reports that it was actually because of Evans’ prosthetics on his face. Apparently the scene of the posse eating pita was shot after the premiere of the movie. When it was decided last minute to film the scene, Evans already had his real-life beard he had to hide.

EW explains that Downey had some fun to poke at the Cap’s prosthetic jaw, joking with the group, “Chris, why the long face? Chris, why the WRONG face?”

Though Evans and Captain America missed out on delicious shawarma, the scene was still a perfect addition to the classic MCU film…fake face or not.
