Tony Stark was without a doubt one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Robert Downey Jr. was not the massive actor he is now when he was cast for the role (in fact, the studio didn’t even want him at first), fans now agree that no one could have brought Iron Man to life the way he did.

It’s no surprise that Downey’s recent conclusion in the MCU has left fans and filmmakers alike feeling nostalgic. He did more than just crush the part in multiple films since the first Iron Man in 2008, but he also took on the role of leader amongst the cast, much like Tony Stark did, hosting welcome lunches and parties for newcomers, ScreenRant reports.

To honor his contribution to the MCU as both actor and character, an Avengers: Endgame featurette includes commentary from the filmmakers talking about the process of casting Downey. Between their discussions are pieces of footage from the actor’s first screen test, as well as some behind-the-scenes clips.

While it’s sad to watch Downey at the beginning of his journey now knowing it how it all ends, this shows just how awesome of a journey he truly had in the beloved franchise.

You can see the full featurette, along with more bonus content, with Endgame's Digital and Blu-ray releases.
