Scarlett Johansson is in some hot water after she claimed she should be able to play any kind of character. In an interview with As If, she said: “You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job.”

Johansson went on: “There are a lot of social lines being drawn now, and a lot of political correctness is being reflected in art.”

After people read these comments, Twitter exploded. The fury is also infused by the fact that she considering taking on a transgender role in Rub & Tug and that she played a Japanese character in Ghost in the Shell, two castings that critics said should go to a transgender and Japanese actor respectively.

After the outcries, Johansson said that her comments were "edited for click bait" and "taken out of context," according to Huffington Post.

Johansson released a new statement but many people are still criticizing it, saying it sounds exactly like her As If comments. She said: “I personally feel that, in an ideal world, any actor should be able to play anybody, and art, in all forms, should be immune to political correctness."

She did acknowledge, however, that “not every actor has been given the same opportunities that I have,” adding, “I continue to support, and always have, diversity in every industry and will continue to fight for projects where everyone is included.”

Despite her attempt at fixing the As If interview, people are continuing to call Johansson out.

The Avengers: Endgame star may have to take a look at this and consider how her influence and word choice affects others.
