Scarlett Johansson is feeling the wrath about disagreeing with politically correct casting…again.

The 34-year-old Avengers star was set to play a trans person last year in the film Rub and Tug before she withdrew from the part. And while Johansson doesn’t speak to this role directly, she does tip-toe around it in her latest interview with As If.

TMZ reports that, in speaking about whitewashing and politically correct casting, Johansson said:

“You know, as an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job…I feel like it’s a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons, yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions…I think society would be more connected if we just allowed others to have their own feelings and not expect everyone to feel the way we do.”

To put it lightly, people did not respond well to the sentiment that a cisgender white woman could play any person she wishes.

This is hardly the first time Johansson has faced backlash regarding this topic. She allegedly exited the Rub and Tug role after catching some serious heat for starring in Ghost in the Shell, originally written for an Asian protagonist.

It seems that Johansson is being a little wishy-washy on where she stands with political correctness, and it might be her own demise.
