It is hard to imagine any other group of misfits playing the beloved characters on The Office, but before the show became our favorite guilty pleasure, it had to go through the same casting pains as every other series in the world. ScreenRant reports that there were many familiar (and very famous) faces that interviewed for Dunder Mifflin, so to speak, and some of them might surprise you.

For example, Seth Rogen has become a household name in the world of comedy with his roles in films like Knocked Up and Pineapple Express. But before he became the loveable stoner in every Judd Apatow film, he auditioned for the role of Dwight Schrute. Though Rogen is funny, he doesn’t quite have the intensity that Rainn Wilson hilariously brought to the role.

Next up we have two Parks and Rec alums, Adam Scott and Nick Offerman. Scott tried his hand at the role of Jim Halpert, but the showrunners ultimately didn’t find him as good of a fit as John Krasinski. Offerman auditioned multiple times for guest spots on the show in the early seasons, but ultimately ended up being the perfect Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec.

Eric Stonestreet, who is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Cameron Tucker in the ABC mega-hit, Modern Family, auditioned for the role of Kevin Malone. The role ended up being awarded to Brian Baumgartner, our favorite Office dummy.

And last but not least, Anne Dudek, who played Tiffany Wilson in the 2004 comedy White Chicks, as well as got dumped by Phoebe Buffet when she guest starred on Friends as Mike’s girlfriend, Precious, tried her luck with the role of Pam Beesly. The role eventually went to Jenna Fischer, and thankfully so. I can’t picture Jim marrying anyone else.
