Zoey Deutch is Down to Play DC's Batgirl
By Ryan Carroll

With Matt Reeves’ The Batman and James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad inching closer and closer towards release, DC fans are directing their attention to new characters who might be at home in the franchise. One such character is Batgirl, who has been the subject of frequent speculation--and who actress Zoey Deutch recently expressed interest in playing.
In a Twitter post responding to an fan calling for the actress to play Batgirl, as reported by ComicBook.com, Deutch said simply “yes please,” accompanied by a bat emoji. The original post featured two photos of the Why Him? star alongside screenshots from the 2016 animated adaptation Batman: The Killing Joke.

Stars including Hailee Steinfeld, Lindsay Lohan, and Priyanka Chopra have also expressed interest in playing Batgirl, though DC has said little regarding the character. While she's a mainstay of the Birds of Prey superhero team, she has not been announced to appear in next year’s Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), starring Suicide Squad alum Margot Robbie.
Notably, however, Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson is also slated to write a Batgirl film, and has expressed enthusiasm over the character. In an interview with ComicBook.com, she remarked that “I can say so little about this one, but I can tell you I'm having so much fun writing her. She is such a great character and so different than Harley [Quinn]....I'm just excited for her to be holding her own against all the other superheroes.”
Though there’s little information at this point, we’re as excited to see Batgirl onscreen as Hodson is--and we’ll be keeping an eye on the situation to see whether Zoey Deutch gets to have a role.
