The Batman director Matt Reeves made his first comment on casting Robert Pattinson as the lead role in his upcoming film. The director chose Twitter as his platform for breaking his silence, as he simply shared a gif of the actor from the acclaimed film Good Time, along with three bat emojis.

While Warner Bros. has not officially released a statement on Pattinson as the new Batman, Reeves' tweet seems to suggest that the speculation is no longer just a report, and that Pattinson will officially play Batman.

Nicholas Hoult from the X-Men series was also reported to be in the running for the role of Bruce Wayne. Other actors who were speculative takers included Armie Hammer, Jon Hamm, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The Batman, according to Reeves, will go back to Bruce Wayne's early days of fighting crime in Gotham City and while it is influenced by the classic comic book Batman: Year One, it will not be a straight adaptation.

The Batman will open in theaters on June 25, 2021.
