VIDEO: Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert Recreate 'NeverEnding Story' Scene From 'Stranger Things'

A number of moments from this season of Stranger Things have become beloved among viewers and fans--from Alexei’s review of Slurpees to Hopper’s letter. But few scenes have been more iconic than the unexpected appearance of The NeverEnding Story--which this week was hilariously recreated by in a video by Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert.

The video, which celebrates the return of The Tonight Show and The Late Show after their summer break, sees Fallon taking the role of Dustin (played by Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things) and Colbert playing Suzie (Gabriella Pizzolo in Stranger Things). The sketch parallels a scene in the final episode of Season 3, in which Dustin and Suzie, in the midst of a massive action scene, serenade each other with the theme song of The NeverEnding Story.

As Yahoo reports, song was used in the scene after extensive deliberation by series creators the Duffer Brothers, who initially intended to use the Ent song from the original animated adaptation of The Lord of The Rings. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-creator Matt Duffer shared that they decided against the Ent Song because, “Amazon is making Lord of the Rings, that [was] probably not going to go over well with Netflix.”

The NeverEnding Story song has rocketed in popularity since the premiere of Stranger Things Season 3, with series star Millie Bobby Brown kicking off an online phenomenon by challenging fans to perform their own renditions. Original singer Limahl, for his part, has expressed gratitude at the show’s exposure of the song, and has joked that he would be up to appear in Season 4.

Until news of a Limhal guest role in Stranger Things breaks, we’re just going to be watching this video again, and then probably a few more times--as long as it takes before the song is out of our heads.
