REPORT: Ed Sheeran Will Have a Cameo in 'Star Wars: Episode IX'

The Star Wars film franchise is notoriously one of the most secretive to exist, but a new report reveals that the upcoming film will feature an unexpected celebrity cameo. The Sun UK reports singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran will appear in Star Wars: Episode IX, but his red locks may not.

The report states Sheeran will be suiting up as a Stormtrooper in the film.

Though exciting, this won’t be Sheeran’s first acting gig. The 27-year-old artist has played himself in Bridget Jones’s Baby and a soldier in the hit HBO show Game of Thrones.

Other A-listers have been allowed to don the Stormtrooper costumes in recent films, including Daniel Craig and Tom Hardy. Gary Barlow is reported to have played a Resistance trooper in The Last Jedi’s Battle of Crait. Prince William and Harry also dressed as Stormtroopers but, according to John Boyega, the royals’ scenes did not make the cut.

The ninth and apparent final installment of the Luke Skywalker saga has been filming at Pinewood Studios since August and is set to be released next December, six months after the original release date. Filming was delayed when director Colin Trevorrow was replaced by J.J. Abrams.

Neither Lucasfilm or Disney have commented on the cameo as of yet. Sheeran has also kept quiet about his involvement in the film.

Another unexpected star who will be making an appearance in Episode IX is the late Carrie Fisher. Abrams has confirmed her character General Leia Organa will be given a satisfying conclusion, and reports note that unused footage of Fisher from the last two movies will be used in the new film.
