Though media coverage of San Diego Comic-Con, the largest comic book convention in the world, has already begun in advance of its mid-July opening, another convention has begun to make news: New York Comic Con, the largest convention on the East Coast. This week, the convention revealed the first wave of celebrity guests, and, needless to say, it is packed with major names.

While the convention’s website will post additional guests as publishers and studios refine their own plans, the list so far is expansive and star-studded. Among the names on the list, according to ScreenRant, are Benedict Wong (who played Wong in Doctor Strange), Christopher Eccleston (the Ninth Doctor in Doctor Who), Nichelle Nichols (the original Star Trek’s Lieutenant Uhura), and Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee in Lord of the Rings and Bob Newby on Stranger Things).

A number of voice actors are also slated to appear, including James Arnold Taylor (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), and Sean Schemmel (Dragon Ball Z, Yugioh).

And, of course, a number of comic book creators, including Nick Spencer (Captain America), Brian Azzarello (Wonder Woman), Rick Remender (Uncanny Avengers), and Tom King (Batman), will make appearances at the convention. They join an expansive list of creators who appear to speak at panels and to display recent work at the convention.

Considering the thickness of the attendance list, this year’s New York Comic Con is sure to be chock-full of major announcements about comic books, television, and film--and we can’t wait for it.
