Kristen Stewart Says She Was Warned She Wouldn't Land Marvel Role if She Showed PDA With Girlfriend

Kristen Stewart just got candid in a conversation about her career and her sexuality with Harper's Bazaar UK. In one part of the interview, the 29-year-old actress even shared that she was once warned if she held hands with her girlfriend in public, she wouldn't get a role.
Stewart recalled, ""I have fully been told, 'If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.'" She followed that up with a simple, "I don’t want to work with people like that." And no, she did not disclose which Marvel role she was referring to.
Thankfully, however, things have changed for Stewart. The feature added that now, "people approach her, drawn to that undefined sexuality, wanting to make movies about it." The actress also shared that she is very open in discussing her sexuality because in hiding it, she was hiding a part of herself.
"I think I just wanted to enjoy my life. And that took precedence over protecting my life, because in protecting it, I was ruining it," the BAFTA Award winner stated. "Like what, you can’t go outside with who you’re with? You can’t talk about it in an interview?"
Stewart also spoke about the demands to label herself in the interview, explaining:
"I was informed by an old school mentality, which is – you want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity, and there are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote unquote 'lesbian', but you also don’t identify as a quote unquote 'heterosexual'. And people like to know stuff, so what the f**k are you?’"
The Charlie's Angels star concluded on the topic with a celebration of ambiguity: "I just think we’re all kind of getting to a place where – I don’t know, evolution’s a weird thing – we’re all becoming incredibly ambiguous. And it’s this really gorgeous thing."
While it's truly terrible she was told not to be herself in order to land a part, it seems like everything's worked out for Stewart since then, and we couldn't be happier for her.
