While Kim Kardashian might be a style icon, she’s also known for being a lightning rod for controversy--particularly when it comes to the origin of her ideas. This week, a new spate of accusations were directed at Kardashian after it emerged that sunglasses in her new line look remarkably similar to another design.

According to Cosmopolitan, the controversy was directed at a pair of sunglasses from Kardashian’s capsule collection, a collaboration with designer Caroline Lemke. Instagram fashion watchdog Diet Prada noted that one pair were extremely similar to a pair of Emilio Pucci sunglasses that Kardashian herself wore last August.

Hey @kimkardashian , so it’s def not cool to use someone else’s name and likeness when promoting knockoffs, as evidenced by your win against @missguided , but should it be ok to use your OWN name and likeness to promote them? Lol. Funny how those SS17 @emiliopucci shades you wore in August 2018 ended up in your eyewear collab with @carolinalemkeberlin that launched in April this year. The post above also refers to a lawsuit that Kardashian won earlier this month against fashion company Missguided, who used Kardashian’s likeness on social media without her permission to imply that they were collaborating with her. Kardashian ultimately won over $2 million in court when Missguided failed to respond to the suit--though, as Diet Prada notes, this has not protected her from accusations against her own brand.

This is not the first time that Kardashian has been accused of lifting others' styles. While her designs and looks have received more than their fair share of questions, she has also been the subject of numerous cultural appropriation accusations.

While we certainly want to give Kim the benefit of the doubt here, the evidence isn't exactly looking great for her. In any case, we'll keep an eye on it to see whether she responds or not.
