One of the biggest surprises was the announcement of a Blade reboot, set to be star two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, who will be taking over the title role from original actor Wesley Snipes.

The film is still shrouded in mystery, as no release date or director has been announced. This has left fans to their own devices, taking to social media with suggestions as to who should direct the new adaptation about the vampire slayer. Jordan Peele’s name, unsurprisingly, has landed at the top of the list.

As Rolling Stone reports, it is easy to see why he is fans’ top choice. His horror films Get Out and Us have been extremely well-received. However, Peele is not so keen to leave original stories behind for a franchise reboot.

As the publication points out, Peele admitted to Rolling Stone in December during his cover story interview that he had already been offered multiple franchise films, but that he declined them despite feeling “total temptation.”

He explained, “It’s a childhood dream to be able to essentially see what you saw in your imagination as a child, watching or reading or whatever you were doing with that stuff. It’s a filmmaker’s dream. But you know, I feel like I only have so much time. I have a lot of stories to tell, and it just doesn’t feel right.”

While I’m sure Peele would have done a great job, there is no doubt that DC will find someone who is as pumped to do the film as Ali is.
