Watch Ryan Coogler Get Emotional After Meeting Young 'Black Panther' Fan
By Kwadar Ray

Black Panther was released a year ago this month, but the film is still making headlines due to the seven Academy Award nominations it recently garnered. And while the film's critical acclaim stems from its awesome storytelling, its cultural impact is even more admirable.
With a black director and nearly an all-black cast, the movie was a significant step in diversifying the big screen, and assuring that all young fans will see superheroes that look like them, too. That is a reality that's not lost upon director Ryan Coogler.
"Representation, not just for the sake of representation, but representation because that’s what works, that’s what’s going to make quality stuff that the world is going to embrace, that’s what leads to success." —Ryan Coogler in NYT #BlackPanther chat ? https://t.co/4Gwc7Y07PI pic.twitter.com/XUiG8ED4LV

With a video that has now gone viral, a fan shared tweeted a clip of Coogler meeting a young Black Panther fan being interviewed. The fan, a young black girl dressed as Shuri, T'Challa's younger sister, adorably told Coogler that her favorite film is Black Panther.
“Oh my god, what’s your name, sweetheart?,” Coogler asks. “Black Panther’s sister,” the young girl, whose parents told Coogler she watches the film three times a day, replied.

"It's beautiful," Coogler replied, visibly struck over his film's impact. Plenty of fans on social media were emotional over the clip that personifies the importance of media representation.
Beautiful moment ♥️ Little black girls seeing themselves as superheros. Ryan seeing the impact of his work. Moments like these show how important representation is and how crucial it is for black people to be the ones to create it.

Others tweeted that this moment must've been important to Coogler and made the long, stressful process of directing an MCU film all worth it.
He had that moment where you realize everything that bought you to this point was 100% worth it and your dreams are paying off right in front of you because you believed in yourself and you worked hard to make it happen ? I wish that moment on every one in these comments!

Among Black Panther's seven Oscar nominations, the film is in contention for Best Picture at Sunday's award show, making it the first superhero flick to achieve such an honor.
