Marc Maron might be appearing in Todd PhillipsJoker alongside Joaquin Phoenix, but that doesn’t mean he's the biggest fan of comic book movies.

ComicBook.com reports that, in an interview on Conan this week, Maron took the opportunity to tell the world he thinks comic book fans are bullies, and the films are for “grown, male nerd childs.” Though the comedian was clearly alienating fans for a laugh, his statement was met with boos from the audience.

Maron fired back to the boos, “Take the hit! You guys are in charge of culture. Now I have to go travel 15-20 minutes to a smaller movie theater to see a grown up movie with other grown ups where we can all sit together and not understand the ending.”

His description of “grown up movies” was met with laughs from the audience, maybe showing they forgave him for the previous insult.

Though Maron is clearly a comic book movie hater, he does play a pretty significant role in Joker as Arthur Fleck's agent, Ted Marco. Catch him and Phoenix in the film when it hits theaters Oct. 4.
