Joaquin Phoenix is shaping up to be the perfect Joker. We were excited when it was first announced the Academy Award-nominated actor would be portraying one of Batman's greatest villains, and with each photo and sneak peek, we're pretty much convinced Phoenix will absolutely kill the role.
Todd Phillips, the film's director, took to Instagram last week to share the first official photo of Phoenix in character. While it did get fans hyped, many were disappointed he wasn't in his famous Joker makeup, but rather, as the man before the villain, Arthur Fleck.

Now, Phillips has just shared a camera test of Phoenix as Arthur turning into the Joker, ending with the 43-year-old actor in a full face of makeup. We definitely have chills.
We're not sure if this is the final Joker look, or if he'll have more of an intense transformation as Heath Ledger did for The Dark Knight series. Either way, we're intrigued and want more.
Footage obtained by TMZ last week showed Phoenix on set, walking the street in character, speaking to and seemingly being threatened by a clown. It's is seriously creepy even without any context.
The film hits theaters on Oct. 4, 2019, and we cannot wait for Phillips to share more of this new portrayal of our favorite villain.
