Daniel Diemer’s character in Netflix’s new YA dramedy The Half of It is more complicated than your stereotypical high school jock. Daniel plays Paul Munksy, a nice guy athlete who enlists the help of protagonist Ellie Chu (Leah Lewis) in order to woo the beautiful Aster Flores (Alexxis Lemire). Little does he know that Ellie is also crushing on Aster—and in their tiny, conservative town, Ellie’s identity as a queer, first-generation Chinese American makes her silent competition with Paul all the more fraught. This is Daniel’s first major role, and it’s clearly been a rewarding experience. “I’ve always wanted to work with people that want to tell heartfelt stories,” he explained to Teen Vogue. “I hope people connect to [The Half of It] and feel that they’re not alone.”

Here’s everything you need to know about Daniel.

Daniel was born June 21, according to his Instagram. He’s a Gemini, and WikiCelebs suggests that he was born in 1996, making him 23 years old. According to Teen Vogue, he grew up on Vancouver Island in Canada.
