Spider-Man: Far From Home had a record-breaking first week in box offices, earning $185 million in the first six days.

The film, starring beloved actors Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Jake Gyllenhaal (Mysterio), and Zendaya (Michelle “MJ” Jones), sets the record for a six-day Independence Day launch and the Culver City studio’s best opening over that number of days, Deadline reports.

The last record was also held by a Sony Spider-Man film, the 2004 Spider-Man 2 with Tobey Maguire, which made $180M over the July 4 six-day stretch.

Deadline reports that Sony strategically moved Far From Home from its July 5 opening to July 2 in order to stave off any Independence Day obstacles. Though the holiday can be tough on new releases, it was fruitful this year, with Far From Home’s $25.1M being the second best July 4 ever after Transformers‘ $29M in 2007.

I think we can expect Far From Home to continue to lead in box office sales as the week continues.
