Before Avengers: Endgame's release, most projections showed it would smash plenty of box office records. The initial expectation for the film was an opening weekend that grossed just over $260 million domestically. But as it turns out, the Marvel faithfuls came through in even larger numbers for the movie.

As of Sunday afternoon, Endgame has grossed $350 million domestically, obliterating the year-old $257.6 million record held by--unsurprisingly--Avengers: Infinity War.

But as outstanding as the movie's domestic performance is, its global performance is downright ridiculous. According to Variety, Endgame has come away with a stunning $1.2 billion global box office debut, nearly doubling the then-record-breaking $640.5 million global debut held by Infinity War.

To say the least, fans believe the film deserves all of the box office success it's received.

The Marvel blockbuster has been a major spark for the North American box office, which was down 16.7 percent from last year before Endgame's release. But as of Sunday, it's only down 13.3%, according to Comscore. That is insane!

“The Avengers, by assembling the biggest movie debut in history, have proven that another of their superpowers is the ability to knock several percentage points off the year-to-date deficit,” Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Comscore, told Variety. “‘Endgame’ has truly started the momentum rolling on potentially the biggest revenue generating summer (and year) in box office history."

Considering the fact that the MCU is just 11 years old, many of us may not recognize that we're witnessing astronomical levels of greatness. There's a good chance that we look back at this run of MCU films the same way fans look back at the Star Wars craze of 1970s and 1980s.
