Russo Brothers Explain What Happened to Loki in 'Avengers: Endgame' [SPOILERS]

This story includes spoilers for 'Avengers: Endgame.'

Since the premiere of Avengers: Endgame last month, the writers and directors behind the Marvel film have had a lot to explain. In a movie where our favorite superheroes go back in time and subsequently make tons of alternate realities by changing the past, you can guess we’re going to have questions. This includes something many fans are asking about a scene with the God of Mischief, Loki.

The directing duo behind Endgame, Joe and Anthony Russo, have just explained what happens to Loki in the film after he steals the Space Stone when the team goes back to the Battle of New York. Fans had also been confused over the fact that Loki is set to get his own Disney+ series, although he died at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

So when we see Loki take the Space Stone and disappear in Endgame, some speculated that could be how he’d appear in his show. And the Russos might have just confirmed it.

“Loki, when he teleports away with the [Space] Stone, would create his own timeline,” Joe Russo told Business Insider. “It gets very complicated, but it would be impossible for [Captain America] to rectify the timeline unless he found Loki. The minute that Loki does something as dramatic as take the Space Stone, he creates a branched reality.”

“We’re dealing with this idea of multiverses and branched realities, so there are many realities,” Anthony Russo added.

Essentially, this means that Loki’s future could be set during this alternate reality, but of course nothing has been confirmed. The Disney+ series could very well be set before Loki’s death in Infinity War, and considering he’s over a thousand years old, it could even be way prior to the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

We’ll see exactly if and how Endgame affects Loki when Disney+ debuts this November.
