Rian Johnson Says He's Fine With 'Star Wars: Episode IX' Changing Rey's Parentage
By Olivia Montine

To say that some fans were unhappy with Rian Johnson's treatment of Star Wars: The Last Jedi would be an understatement. Many viewers were not happy with the direction he took the movie, and Johnson himself has even now said he would be okay with Rey's parentage diverging from the decision he originally made.
Johnson said to MTV in an interview at CinemaCon that he would not be bothered if director JJ Abrams decided to take Rey's parentage in another direction.
.@rianjohnson is just as excited for J.J. Abram’s #StarWars Episode IX as we are, and he tells us at #CinemaCon he hopes that the directors keep taking the universe to new heights: “I want him to do stuff that I wasn’t expecting him to do” pic.twitter.com/D7Jh5SqgeT

“Like I said, man, I want to let go of all my expectations," Johnson said. "I want to sit back. I want to be entertained. I want to be surprised. I want to be thrilled. I want him to do stuff I wasn’t expecting him to do and just go along for the ride.”
Keeping with the positive attitude, Johnson also expressed how he wants the franchise to keep evolving. “I’m also psyched about the things they are going to explore beyond what we’ve seen already,” he added. “To me, that’s kind of the most exciting stuff is pushing the limits of seeing stuff we haven’t seen before in Star Wars.”
We're excited to see the direction Abrams takes when the final episode of the Skywalker saga releases this December!
