REPORT: 'Star Wars: Episode IX' Set to Be One-Year Time Jump From 'The Last Jedi'
By Kwadar Ray

The time-jump between the latest Star Wars movies, The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens, was just a few minutes. But that small time gap was the exception to the general rule in the Skywalker saga.
Most fans are used to the massive gap between the events of the movies, so they're going to have a familiar feel when Episode IX makes its theatrical release. Empire Magazine reports that Episode IX will embrace the usual tradition by taking place an entire year after The Last Jedi.
The magazine obtained the news after actor John Boyega allegedly gave an off-hand quote confirming it. The article did not provide a direct quote from the actor.

If Boyega actually revealed the gap, it would not be a major surprise, as he actually hinted at a significant time-jump in April after suggesting his character would have time grow his hair.
A one-year time jump would make sense, as it will give the heroes an extensive opportunity to find a way to fight back. However, some fans believe the jump should be even longer.
Well, I guess this is the first disappointment for Episode IX. It only takes place 1 year after TLJ. Was hoping it would have been significantly more than that for a number of reasons. https://t.co/oPeQn7KckN

Coincidentally enough, Episode IX is set for a theatrical release nearly a year from now on Dec. 20, 2019.
