Pete Davidson Explains Why It's 'Fair Game' to Joke About Ariana Grande

Pete Davidson has been using Ariana Grande for material ever since the two started dating, and the jokes never stopped after the couple broke up back in October. Whether it’s on Saturday Night Live or in his stand-up acts, there have been multiple times it was reported Pete mentioned his past relationship with the hit-making pop star.

Back in November, Ariana very publicly called out Pete for this very reason. "For somebody who claims to hate relevancy [you] sure love clinging to it huh," Ariana wrote in a since-deleted tweet.

Though Pete is now rumored to be dating actress Kate Beckinsale, the jokes about Ariana haven't stopped.

The comedian is now defending his right to make jokes about his relationship with Ariana, using "Thank U, Next" as an excuse. At a show at California’s Oxnard Levity Live club on Jan. 31, the 25-year-old comedian said any jokes about Ariana are “fair game” since she name-dropped Pete in her hit song, according to US Weekly. Davidson also made a joke, whether there was some truth to the statement or not, that some people only came to his show to hear what he had to say about his ex-fiancé.

An eyewitness told the publication that it was actually the self-deprecating jokes that got laughs out of the crowd. The source said Davidson was, “good, but I really wanted to give him a hug. It seems like he just really needs a hug.”

As these jokes continue, we can only wonder what Ari is thinking. Will she call out her ex on social media again? Or will she take the high road and focus on her new album and world tour?
