The Jordyn Woods/Tristan Thompson cheating scandal has rocked the Kardashian-Jenner family to its core, and last week, months of anticipation was fulfilled when the drama finally hit the screen on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Following the episode’s premiere, however, some fans began to turn on the Kardashians, expressing frustration about the disrespectful way that Kim spoke about Woods.

In the episode, according to BuzzFeed, Kardashian spoke on Woods’ financial relationship with best friend Kylie Jenner, claiming that “[Woods] provided for her whole family off of what you [Jenner] have given her.” She also added that Woods had betrayed the trust of Khloé Kardashian, Thompson’s then-girlfriend and friend of Woods through Jenner, saying that Khloé had “employed” her. Woods had been a model for Khloé's clothing brand Good American.

Kardashian’s comments seem to refer to the fact that Woods was a frequent guest on Life of Kylie and KUWTK, has collaborated with Jenner on beauty products, and (until recently) lived with her. However, as many Twitter users noted, Woods’ family is seemingly independently wealthy, even being close with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith.

Subsequently, fans expressed frustration at Kim’s comments, with many saying that it demeaned Woods and some even remarking that it reflected Kim’s white savior complex. As one Twitter user commented, “Kim must really have a white savior complex to say that Kylie gave Jordyn the ability to provide for her family. If Jordyn lived in the same zip code as Kylie to be able to go to school with her then her family obviously has money too.” Many echoed this stance online.

These accusations follow a history of instances in which members of the Kardashian family have been accused of appropriating other cultures, particularly black culture, for personal gain. Most recently, Kim herself came under fire for naming a line of shapewear Kimono, a possible appropriation of Japanese culture.

As for us, we’re not sure exactly where we come down--but we do know that we’re glad to see some fans give Woods a fair shake. It’d be easy to write her off, but the truth is always more complicated.
