This article contains spoilers for ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.’

Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man franchise is one of the most lastingly influential superhero series of all time, setting the stage for superhero films long before Avengers: Endgame was even a pipe dream. This week, Raimi spoke out on how one element in his film appeared in the new Spider-Man films--J.K. Simmons’ rendition of J. Jonah Jameson, which appears in the mid-credits scene of Far From Home.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight (via CBR), Raimi explained that Simmons had asked for his blessing. "J.K. called me and said: 'Hey, they’re talking me about reprising my role. What do you think?'” he recalled. “And I said: 'With all my greatest blessings,' because I love Spider-Man, I love J.K. and I want to see more of them.”

Raimi added that he had not seen the film, but seemed pleasantly surprised when told of its positive critical reception.

Simmons’ portrayal of Jameson, a long-running character in Spider-Man stories, has earned critical acclaim, with the actor appearing in multiple animated renditions of the character and even being the subject of a 2016 petition, which called for Simmons’ Jameson to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Three years later, with Far From Home, that wish has come to fruition.

We couldn’t be more glad that Simmons got to make an appearance in Far From Home--and we’re even happier that the camoe got Raimi’s approval. Now we just want to go back and rewatch Simmons’ appearance, in all its brief glory.
