Following the worldwide smash success of Avengers: Endgame, the picture of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future is beginning to get clearer and clearer, with new projects emerging and new directors being tapped to helm the films. One creator is particularly interested in working with Marvel Studios: Olivia Wilde, who recently expressed her enthusiasm at the prospect of directing a film for the franchise.

According ScreenRant, Wilde expressed enthusiasm about the ability of female directors to enter the fray in all genres of film, including those about superheroes. When asked directly by MTV News about whether she would direct one for Marvel or not, she responded that she “absolutely” would.

Though Wilde is known for her onscreen performances in TV and films such as House, Rush, and Butter, she has also made a strong debut in directing recently, releasing several successful short films and subsequently helming Booksmart. Though Booksmart has had to contend with the difficulty of a Memorial Day release date against a slew of blockbusters, it has received critical acclaim and is enjoying positive word-of-mouth.

Wilde said that she is, “a proud member of the movement of female directors, and I don’t think any genre should be off the table.” She also mentioned that she was glad that women including Ava DuVernay, who is set to direct DC's The New Gods, and Chloé Zhao, director of the upcoming Eternals, were able to take on superhero projects.

Though there doesn't appear to be any plan for Wilde and Marvel Studios, we’d be glad to see her vision realized onscreen in the MCU--and, regardless of her involvement with Marvel, to see her continue to create touching and powerful films like Booksmart.
