Nickelback Responds to 'Once Upon a Deadpool' Trailer Shout-Out

Fans of the Merc With a Mouth were curious when it was announced a PG-13 version of Deadpool 2 would be heading to theaters. However, many assumed it might just be a cut-down version of the hilarious film meant only for young audiences. Well, they were soon proved wrong, as the version was dubbed Once Upon a Deadpool, essentially the same film (with less vulgarity) told in Princess Bride style. Yep, the film features Deadpool telling the story to Fred Savage, the child now all grown up from the 1987 classic.

The new add-on to Deadpool 2 opens up tons of opportunity for comedic banter between the two, and a new trailer confirms just that. The clip shows an argument between Deadpool and Fred, when they disagree on the rock band Nickelback.

And when Fred calls Nickelback “over-produced, formulaic ear garbage,” Deadpool takes it personally. The superhero reminds the actor of all the band’s achievements. “50 million albums worldwide. 11th best selling musical act of all time. Billboard’s most successful rock group of the last decade,” he states.

After Fred apologizes, it hilariously becomes evident he too is a fan, and the two break out in song with Nickelback’s “How You Remind Me.”

While the video is without a doubt hilarious, what makes it even better is that Nickelback has responded! Taking to Twitter, the band shared the video and wrote, “Well, that’s one way to start your day.”

Nickelback then tweeted out a second time, adding, “It’s not like @VancityReynolds to say sorry, we’ve been waiting on a different @deadpoolmovie story....... #MaximumEffort,” playing on the song featured.

Once Upon a Deadpool hits theaters Dec. 12 and runs through Dec. 24.
