New 'Batman' Twitter Account Launches Following Robert Pattinson Casting
By Ryan Carroll

Following weeks of speculation, it was confirmed last week that Robert Pattinson, star of both the Twilight series and a number of indie films, would play the Caped Crusader in the upcoming The Batman. And just several days after the announcement, DC Entertainment has launched a new Batman Twitter account, building enthusiasm for the characters’ next appearance.
Importantly, the account is not for the film itself, but rather for the Batman property broadly, as the account’s bio reads, “Wherever you know him from - movies, TV shows, video games or comics - Batman is proof you don’t need superpowers to be a superhero."

The account’s first tweet, as reported by ComicBook.com, was not an announcement of Pattinson’s casting but instead a cheeky message: “Did somebody light the Bat-Signal?”
So far, the account has largely engaged in promotion of the character and of the comics, tweeting images of classic DC Comics or promoting partnerships between DC and the US military. It has also posted a number of images commemorating the 80th anniversary of the character’s creation, as in one tweet: “80 years of mystery. 80 years of action. 80 years of Batman. #LongLiveTheBat #Batman80.” Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27, and was created by Bob King and Bill Finger.

This Twitter account follows an earlier Twitter announcement by The Batman director Matt Reeves, who posted a tweet with three bat emojis and a GIF of Pattinson yesterday.
Though the new Batman account has yet to begin promoting The Batman or Pattinson’s casting, we’re sure that more--in particular, an official Twitter account--will be coming down the line from DC Entertainment. Until then, we’ll lie in anticipation, consuming all the Batman content we can get our hands on.
