As much as fans love the drama of the Teen Mom series, it can be heartbreaking for the kids involved. This couldn’t be more true for Maryssa Eason, the daughter of David Eason and his ex, Whitney Johnson Rich.

Eason and his current wife, former Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans, lost custody of their children in May after Eason murdered the family dog, saying she allegedly tried to bite the couple’s daughter, Ensley. They then regained custody last week after a judge threw out the case.

Maryssa's stepfather, Shane Rich, sat down with The Ashley for an interview published July 5, in which he said that he and Whitney, “are very upset and Maryssa is traumatized. [Maryssa] was very brave and honest and the justice system failed her. We just told her to protect herself…and do what she has to do to peacefully survive there. It’s a sad thing for a child to have to do, but it’s the only option in this situation, for now.”

Shane and Whitney are not the only ones shocked and outraged with the judge’s decision. Fans and social media users have been worried about all of the children's well-being since their return to David.

Evans and Eason, however, are over the moon. Evans told Us Weekly that she was “ecstatic” following the ruling: “Throughout this long process and final decision, I am excited to be moving forward and continuing to show America I’m a good parent.”

All eyes are on Eason and Evans to see if they will live up to that sentiment.
