It looks like Joss Whedon might’ve just started an internet war we didn’t see coming. The writer/director, who has a reputation for crossing over from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to DC Extended Universe, took to Twitter to express his passionate views about how Henry Cavill’s Superman is, in his opinion, the greatest since Christopher Reeve.

Upon seeing a tweet calling Cavill a “solid Superman,” Whedon took it a step further when he quote-tweeted the message and wrote, "Cavill is a GREAT Superman - definitely the best since Reeves, and could take the top spot with the right material/barber.”

Immediately, fans expressed their annoyance that Whedon had misspelled Reeve’s name, instead calling him “Reeves.” And his declaration angered DC fans who weren’t big on Whedon already, as many never warmed to his version of 2017’s Justice League after he took over for Zack Snyder. This caused replies claiming Cavill didn’t get good enough material from him to be a great Superman, as he allegedly totally changed Snyder’s vision.

Fans will never forget Cavill’s famous mustache fail either, and of course took this opportunity to throw it in Whedon’s face. The scenes in Justice League that were reshot by Whedon featured the actor’s mustache, which he had to contractually keep for Mission: Impossible - Fallout, horribly edited out with CGI.

Whedon must’ve known he was going to get dragged here.
