'Joker' Hits the Top 10 in IMDb's Highest-Rated Movies of All Time List

Joker is killing it all across the board. Todd Phillips' film has now officially beaten the October record for biggest box office opening, previously held by 2018's Venom.
But not only is the new flick coming out financially successful, it's also climbing the ranks of film ratings. As reported by ComicBook.com, it's now in the No. 9 spot of IMDb's Top Rated Movies of All Time list. The ratings are compiled by IMDb users, with The Shawshank Redemption at No. 1. Following that classic comes The Godfather, both parts I and II. In fourth place comes Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, so it seems the character of the Joker continues to see a welcome reception by audiences.
For those who have not seen it yet, the fact that Joker is now holding its own among films such as 12 Angry Men and Schindler's List should be solid testimony. But the Joaquin Phoenix-led movie has not climbed the ranks of films without any heat. Many viewers have taken issue with the violence of the film, arguing it could inspire real-life persons to act out in a similar way.
Director Todd Phillips disagreed with this outlook and said that any kind of glorification of violence was not the point of the film. While speaking to The Wrap last month, he explained, "It wasn’t, ‘We want to glorify this behavior.’ It was literally like ‘Let’s make a real movie with a real budget and we’ll call it f**king
Joker’. That’s what it was.”
People will just have to make up their own minds about Joker and, according to users on IMDb, it's certainly worth a try.
