One of the highlights of Netflix’s smash hit Stranger Things has been the authentic chemistry between its leads, and this often corresponds to friendships off-set. However, every friendship has moments where lines drawn--as was revealed this week, when it emerged that star Joe Keery had been kicked out of a group chat with his co-stars for being too old.

Keery shared news of the group chat eviction with Access (via Bustle), saying that “I think there was a group chat in Season 2. I’m not in any big group chat now but I think Noah [Schnapp] was like [imitates excessive typing].” Co-star Maya Hawke, also present in the interview, remarked that “All the kids still have a group chat,” Keery added, “We’re too old for that. We got booted.”

The younger lead actors of Stranger Things are between 14 and 17 years old, while Hawke (the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke) is 20 and Keery is 27.

In the same interview, Keery and Hawke teased the show’s highly anticipated upcoming season, which is expected to premiere this week. Keery and Hawke agreed, according to Access, that this installment will be the darkest yet, though Keery noted that it will be a, “season of extremes. There's the most funny stuff that happens, and then also definitely the most scary."

We’re glad that the Stranger Things stars still appear to be tight, even despite the group chat boundaries--and we’ll be tuning in to see their onscreen friendship when the show premieres on Netflix this July 4.
