'Game of Thrones' Composer Ramin Djawadi Says He's 'Still in Denial' About the Show Ending
By Ryan Carroll

It’s been just three days since the highly anticipated finale of Game of Thrones aired, but it’s still safe to assume that many people, both fans and creators, still haven’t fully processed the ending. Though your mind might go first to actors like Kit Harington or showrunners like D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, another creator has expressed that he’s “in denial” about the series ending: the show’s composer, Ramin Djawadi.
“I have to admit, I’m still in denial,” Djawadi said, according to Variety. “I feel like it’s not over yet. I can’t let go. I never expected this to be such a success in that it would have such an impact on people around the world."
Djawadi has been the show’s composer since its very beginning, and is responsible for creating the now-iconic theme song. His talents have remained a prominent fixture of the show through all of Season 8 as well--one of his major pieces this season was “The Night King,” the somber piano track that played over the struggle during the Battle of Winterfell.
He also had the privilege of knowing the story’s ending in advance, but was so occupied with his own work that he wasn’t concerned about spoiling anything, Variety noted. “[I was] putting myself under the pressure of ‘How can I beat myself from the previous season? How can I expand the themes?'” he said.
Ultimately, Djawadi said, he was extremely happy to have had a role in the show. "It’s been an incredible journey," he stated. "I’m honored to just have been part of this."
While our opinions are still mixed on how the ending of Game of Thrones turned out, we have nothing but positive things to say about Djawadi’s work on the series. He’s been there from the opening credits of the first episode all the way to the final notes of the last--and we're looking forward to hearing his work all over again when we inevitably rewatch the show.
