Full Trailer for James Wan's 'Swamp Thing' Drops Ahead of Series Release
By Ryan Carroll
DC’s Swamp Thing is just two days away from its release on DC Universe, DC Entertainment’s streaming service, and, if early reviews are any indication, it will be sure to generate enthusiasm. DC fed the flames of that enthusiasm just a bit more this week, releasing a full trailer before the series’ debut.
The trailer features a ghastly look at a Louisiana town where a number of individuals become infected with a mysterious disease that causes plant life to grow from their bodies. To investigate the outbreak, CDC agent Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) delves into the swamp to probe its depths, eventually leading her to the Swamp Thing (Derek Mears).
As the atmosphere of the trailer suggests, the series will likely play on heavy horror elements--which is fitting, given the past work of its major creators. While co-creator Mark Verheiden is known for executive producing TNT’s Falling Skies and writing a number of horror comic books, other co-creator Gary Dauberman and executive producer James Wan are frequent collaborators on films in The Conjuring franchise. Wan also served as director of DC’s Aquaman.
Swamp Thing is just the latest series to premiere on DC Universe, following Titans and Doom Patrol, though, according to CBR, Swamp Thing will not take place in the same universe as the other series--a departure from the comic book series created by writer Len Wein and artist Bernie Wrightson, which did take place in the DC Universe.
In any case, we’re ready to be spooked to our core with Swamp Thing. You can binge it when it premieres on DC Universe on May 31.
