While Star Wars has one of the most passionate fan-bases in popular culture, it can also have some of the most vitriolic hate--as sequel trilogy star Daisy Ridley knows all too well. Rather than stay silent on the subject, however, Ridley has been candid about fan hate, and this week she shared some of her thoughts with the world.

In an interview with Bustle (via ComicBook.com), Ridley explained that while she understands the impulse to share an opinion, there is a limit. "It’s great that people are expressive of their views. But this is people’s jobs. People worked really, really hard on that thing," she said. "I think there’s a way of having a discussion that isn’t so vicious."

As ComicBook.com reports, negativity in social media drove Ridley to deactivate her social media accounts. This negativity, she says, stems partly from the nature of the internet, where “If you’ve got however many followers, and you write something that you think is, like, so deep, and a hundred people like it, it’s constant reinforcement.”

While we certainly hold the Star Wars sequel films in pretty high regard, we agree with Ridley that the most important thing is to express one’s opinion respectfully--you can be valid in not liking something, but you always have to remember the people's feelings behind it.
