Are Barack and Michelle Obama going to be the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, using their superpowers to spread hope and peace throughout the galaxy? Unfortunately, the answer is no--we will not be seeing Michelle use her fabulous arms to beat up aliens. But there is super exciting news. According to Collider, the Obamas are will be teaming up to produce a film for Netflix with Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War, among other MCU films.

Collider reports it was announced in 2017 that the Russo Brothers had acquired the rights to Exit West, a novel by Pakistani author Mohsin Hamid. Several months later, Barack Obama included Exit West on his list of favorite books he read that year. It is no surprise the book was of interest to the former president, as it details the harrowing journey of two refugees fleeing from their home country in the Middle East after a civil war breaks out. The book discusses issues that are faced in the daily lives of global refugees.

The Obamas' production house, Higher Ground, is rumored to be producing the film for Netflix, with Star Wars actor (and potential MCU writer!) Riz Ahmed reportedly slated for the lead role. There is no word yet on when the film would be released. The Russo Brothers have joked before about working together with iconic producers, but teaming up with the Obamas is on another level. I, for one, am totally here for it and cannot wait to see what comes of this collab!
