Author Angie Thomas Wants Nicki Minaj and Cardi B for New Film

Following the smashing success of The Hate U Give in 2018, author Angie Thomas' newest novel has already been picked up for a movie by Fox.
On The Come Up focuses on a 16-year-old girl named Bri who lives in the same neighborhood as Starr from The Hate U Give. Bri is an aspiring rapper, and this aspect of her character prompted Thomas to request that a few familiar faces make appearances in her next project.
During an appearance on BuzzFeed News’ Twitter morning show, AM to DM, the author shared, “Cardi, I would love for you to make an appearance; Missy [Elliott], Nicki, I can keep y’all separated," joking in reference to Nicki Minaj and Cardi B's feud. "We don’t have to worry about any drama."
Her reasoning for wanting to include so many famous faces? “I would love as many women in hip-hop to make appearances so we can say they’re here, they’re making themselves heard, and they inspired this generation, so let’s inspire more generations," she stated.
The author also added she wants an appearance by Taraji P. Henson, citing that "she’s an empowered woman and she empowers other women,” in addition to being a talented actress.
We can't wait to see Thomas' latest work hit the big screen.
