One of the highlights of the Marvel Studios’ rendition of Spider-Man has been Zendaya’s performance as Michelle Jones--revealed in Spider-Man: Homecoming to be MJ, the adaptation of the iconic comic book character Mary Jane Watson. This week, Zendaya showed up to a promotion for the new Spider-Man: Far From Home sporting bright red hair, which, she confirmed, is a tribute to the redheaded Mary Jane.

Following her appearance at the promo event in London, Zendaya sent fans into a fit of excitement with her new crimson locks. When a fan enthusiastically remarked on the look on Twitter, asking if it could be for a new role, the actress responded saying “MJ homage” along with a read heart, as reported by ComicBook.com.

Additionally, Zendaya posted a photo from the event on Instagram, captioning it “Face it, Tiger…”, a reference to Mary Jane’s classic catchphrase from the Spider-Man comic books.

This revelation marks a renewed presence for MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Previously, Michelle’s identity as “MJ” was only revealed near the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, following extensive fan speculation. This rendition of MJ is a departure from previous cinematic depictions of the character, who was played by Kirsten Dunst in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy and Shailene Woodley in a cut version of Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
