Why Taika Waititi Doesn't Want to Direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3'
By Hannah Wigandt

Don't expect Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi to take on Guardians of the Galaxy 3, because he's just confirmed he will definitely not be jumping on board following the firing of James Gunn.
ComicBook.com has reported that Waititi said he would like to remain in the Marvel world with another film, but will not be directing the third Guardians. He claimed he had not talked with Marvel about the project, admitting the film series belongs to Gunn.
Another reason why Taika Waititi is the coolest. Have to imagine Disney/Marvel going to have a real tough time finding a director who wants to put him/herself in the position of trying to be a faux James Gunn. Who would want that job? https://t.co/aDBsnphKZd

"Going into something like that with his stamp all over his films, would be like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad, and this is how we make peanut butter sandwiches now.' It feels kind of awkward,” Waititi said.
While Waititi is not signed on to make another Marvel film yet, his relationship with Marvel Studios is still open, according to the director himself. Fans are now excited about the possibility of another MCU film helmed by the Academy Award-nominated filmmaker.
Waititi is currently wrapping up movie Jojo Rabbit, due out this year, and is the director on a couple of episodes of Jon Favreau's upcoming live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian for Disney+.
