Why Dr. Drew is Advising Ariana Grande to Stay Away From Pete Davidson

It was a frightening situation last weekend after Pete Davidson wrote an alarming message on Instagram seemingly threatening to commit suicide.

"I really don't want to be on this earth anymore. I'm doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don't know how much longer I can last," he wrote.

Ariana Grande, who the message in part appeared to be directed at, rushed to the SNL studio to comfort Davidson. However, he reportedly did not want to see her.

It's obviously an awful situation that goes beyond a simple breakup. And while Ariana and others are probably wondering how they can help, one of the world's best-known doctors is advising the singer to stay away from Pete.

Dr. Drew Pinsky believes even though it's "nice for Ariana Grande to express her support" for Pete, she needs to keep her distance for Pete's own safety.

"The [split] is a major loss. He needs to manage that loss and every tie he comes in contact with her, that clock starts ticking again - it just resets," Pinsky told TMZ on Thursday. "All those fantasies of reconciliation return and it's bad."

Dr. Drew also discussed how the online hate Pete has received is just making matters worse.

"On top of all that, poor Pete Davidson is dealing with... getting trolled online. And when you're unstable like that, it just cuts right through you," he said.

The celebrity doctor referenced Davidson's past struggles with his mental health, and stated the comedian is more at risk of being "self-destructive" due to it.

"[Pete] had major loss in his life around his father [who died during the 9/11 attacks]. He has... a borderline personality disorder, which is someone that can feel very... self-destructive," Dr. Drew said. "He's had previous mood disturbances, so he's at risk for depression reoccurring."

Though we do not know any other advice Ariana may have received since the incident, it seems Dr. Drew just gave the artist the most important and well thought-out guidance she can possibly receive.
