When Ariana Grande dropped the tracklist for her new album Thank U, Next, there was a whole lot to unpack and analyze. As we can usually tell who Ari's songs are about when listening to them, sometimes just the title can drop a few hints. But everyone went crazy when they saw the song name "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" because, well, it's savage.
And of course, Arianators were delighted when that turned out to be the next music video, along with the album release last night. But now, many are confused as ever as to who the song is really about.
Is "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" About Big Sean and Jhene Aiko?
Ariana has a track called “Breakup with your girlfriend, I’m bored” & it’s about Big Sean. Y’all heard it hear first. pic.twitter.com/tUf7tJDx2n— ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ (@merelynora) January 23, 2019
At first when the tracklist came out, fans took to social media to share they were convinced the song was about Ari's ex, Big Sean, and his on-and-off girlfriend Jhené Aiko.
Ariana dated the rapper from 2014 to 2015, and seemingly stayed on good terms with him over the years, as the singer revealed she let Sean listen to "Thank U, Next" before its release. And in the "Thank U, Next" music video, Ariana includes photos of her exes in the Mean Girls-inspired Burn Book. For Sean's page, the singer wrote, "Could still get it." This was an incredibly bold move, especially considering Sean has been dating Jhené on and off since 2016.
But before people judge Ariana for this, the music video might've just debunked that Big Sean rumor. Take a look for yourself by watching below.
Did you catch it? In the surprise ending, Ariana actually goes for the girlfriend, instead of the guy. While some are finding this just a cute scene, others are finding the deeper meaning in it. Maybe the song is actually about realizing to put yourself first? I mean, Ariel Yasmine's character isn't dressed and styled just like Ariana for no reason.
the ‘girlfriend’ in the break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored resembles ariana. in the music video she’s breaking up with her boyfriend to learn to love herself :,) pic.twitter.com/F6b0fyLj2x— matthew (@sevensrings) February 8, 2019
Fans are pretty much in agreement the song might actually be about Ariana herself...but we still can't help but wonder who the boy is.
