VIDEO: Sophie Turner Defends Soccer Player Alex Morgan After Tea Celebration Backlash

Sophie Turner is immensely popular, not only for her roles as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones and Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise, but also for her fun-loving, relaxed personality.

Turner even has a funny catchphrase, which involves her spilling some kind of inside scoop and then saying “And that’s the tea” as she takes a big gulp of whatever drink is in front of her…which is usually wine.

E! News reports that Turner, who is currently on her honeymoon with her husband, Joe Jonas, interrupted her love-fest to stick up for U.S. soccer player, Alex Morgan.

Morgan was criticized as a “poor sport” after the U.S. vs England match on Tuesday when, after kicking the winning goal to beat England 2-1 and sending her team to the World Cup final, she ran to the sideline and pretended to sip an imaginary cup of tea in celebration.

Morgan responded to the backlash, saying, "My celebration was actually more about, 'That's the tea,' which is telling a story, spreading news…Sophie Turner does it quite often. She's one of my favorite actresses. So it wasn't a hit to England in any way."

Turner then defended Morgan in an Instagram video, saying:

“OK, I'm on my honeymoon, I'm not really look at my phone much, but I feel like this deserves a mention. Unfortunately, the U.K. Women's Football team lost at the World Cup, and of course, I'm incredibly sad and incredibly proud of that team. But I am so honored that we lost to such an incredible team, the U.S. Women's Football team.”

Turner, who wed Jonas last weekend in a second ceremony in France, continues in the video, “Alex Morgan, all the haters that are saying that this was disrespectful, I'm honored that you thought of me and all those people that are hating on you are probably sitting at home, Millennials drinking Kombucha. And I'm really f**king proud of you, Alex Morgan, congratulations on your win. And that's the mother f**king tea.”

You do whatever you want with that tea, Alex. You’re on fire, and Sophie definitely has your back.
