'Venom' Comics Writer Receiving Death Threats Over Change in Story Arc

The latest edition of the Marvel Venom comics, Venom #11, came out this week to mostly positive reviews, contrary to the film adaptation.

However, not everyone has been fond of the newly released issue, namely for a change in story arc. In the comic, it's revealed that Venom has purposefully been exploiting Eddie Brock's physical and mental state.

The surprising revelation understandably threw a wrench into Brock and Venom's relationship. So who's angry about this? Well, there's a large sector of the Venom fanbase who "ships" Eddie and Venom, meaning they want to see a romance between the human and symbiote.

Now, that sounds kind of wild, but to each their own. And to defend those fans, the relationship between Brock and Venom has always been difficult to define, so it's not outrageous at all to assume they could possibly be romantically involved.

However, things took a very dark turn when "shippers" began threatening Donny Cates, the author of the recent edition, for ruining hopes for a future romantic relationship between Venom and Brock.

Many fans, however, have since tweeted their support for Cates and Venom #11.

It's understandable some fans are upset over the change Cates made, especially since the previous editions and film hinted at a romantic relationship. However, that certainly isn't an excuse to send to any type of threat--especially death threats--to the author.
