David Birtwistle knows a thing or two about self-discipline, and the fitness coach and former rugby player will have to exercise all the control he’s got on Netflix’s new reality dating series, Too Hot to Handle. The premise of the show is sort of like Bachelor in Paradise—with one important twist. The contestants have to embrace complete celibacy in order to win the $100,000 prize money. No matter how determined David is, he’s likely going to have quite a job fighting off all the attention.

Am I about to vegan after watching the Netflix documentary #gamechangers ? . I know loads of PTs have been hating on this film and for sure there are some very suspect claims they make. . Drinking beetroot juice will increase bench press strength by 20%... you can fuck right off with that statement. If that was true, you can guarantee that every single strength athlete would be drinking the worlds supply in next to no time. . The studies they did on the show were somewhat floored in their reliability, sample size and repeatability. Therefor not really applicable. . Putting the firemen on a “plant based” diet for a week they got brilliant results in cholesterol and blood pressure ?? But they also lost an average of 6lbs. Which signifies they were in a MASSIVE calorie deficit. Which also means their starting diets were probably very high in high density caloric foods, probably very processed, high in trans fatty acids and sugar with very little nutrient dense foods. Almost any positive change to their nutrition would yield significant improvement in tested markers. . There were multiple other issues of anecdotal evidence and outlandish claims but Ill let you watch and see them yourself. . However I did like a couple of things . 1) they constantly refer to the eating style as “plant based” rather than veggie or vegan. This is a subtle change to a more balanced style of eating. Suggesting that eating more veggies is a good idea. It also suggests that you don’t need to give up all meat but just reduce your intake. . 2) It quickly discusses the environmental impact of farming animals, especially in the USA. The land use, water consumption and treatment of the animals is completely unnecessary. All due to the cultural complete over consumption of meat in the USA. I personally find it pretty fucking disgusting how much meat Americans consume from such terrible sources and more likely than not it’s highly processed and associated with fried food. . If my calories come from around 20% animal products then I would classify myself as plant based as 80% come from plant based sources. . What are your thoughts? .
