With the announcement that Andy Serkis will direct the upcoming Venom 2, more and more information is beginning to emerge about the film and its story. This week, a glimpse at the inside of the film’s writing emerged, with Tom Hardy being “very involved” in penning the film’s script.

The news came directly from Serkis himself, who shared information about the film during a press event promoting FX’s A Christmas Carol. According to CBR, Serkis said, “Tom [Hardy] was very involved with the writing, with Kelly Marcel, of the new story...so it's very much centered around their take.”

Serkis also added that he was glad to be involved with the film in general. “I'm excited to work with all the great actors who are involved. It's a fantastic franchise," he said. “I'm really honored to have been asked to direct it. And it feels like it's a very, again, very contemporary story. And it's I think it's going to be, hopefully, a story piece of cinema.”

Previously, it was only known that Marcel, who wrote the original film, would return to Venom 2. As of yet, the details of the story remain unclear, though the ending of Venom and a photo on Serkis’ Instagram would seem to indicate that the new story will feature supervillain Carnage (Woody Harrelson) and some influence from the Venom: Lethal Protector comic book storyline.

While we have little else in the way of news, we’re still excited to see what comes out of Venom 2--and, with Hardy helping to write, hopefully the film will shine an interesting spotlight on his character.
