The 'Saving Private Ryan' Easter Egg in 'Avengers: Endgame' [SPOILERS]

This story includes spoilers for 'Avengers: Endgame.'

It doesn't have to be a holiday for fans to find the tons of Easter Eggs hidden in Marvel movies. Just like Stan Lee's cameos and all of the clues in the post-credits scenes, Easter Eggs have become part of the status quo for the MCU. Avengers: Endgame was no different.

Usually if there's an Easter Egg in any Marvel movie, it probably relates to something in the franchise or the comics the film is based on, but all you needed to to know about this newly discovered nod is a little pop culture knowledge. One of the most clever Easter Eggs, as highlighted by ComicBook.com, is a nod to the Steven Spielberg movie Saving Private Ryan.

In one of the last scenes of Endgame, Captain America had to travel back into the Quantum Realm to return all of the Infinity Stones to their own time. When he never returns, the Hulk, Falcon, and Bucky start to panic--until they see an old man sitting on a bench overlooking the lake.

When Falcon approaches the old man, sitting there is actually an older version of Steve Rogers. They notice Steve is wearing a wedding ring, and Falcon asks, "You want to tell me about her?" Steve replies, "No, I don't think I will."

The line pays homage to Saving Private Ryan's Captain Miller, who was played by Tom Hanks. Before the final battle, Miller is sitting in an evacuated city talking to Private Ryan, a.k.a. Matt Damon's character. The two characters are talking about home, and Miller recalls his wife. When Ryan asks Miller about her, Miller responds, "No, that one I save just for me."

While we never get to see Captain America reunited with Peggy Carter, the ending scene in Endgame shows that Steve stayed in 1945 and lived a long and happy life with his wife, as they dance in their living room.
