The Savage Hidden Joke Trevor Noah Included in 'Black Panther' Oscars Introduction

Did anyone else miss the hidden joke in Trevor Noah's Black Panther introduction at the Oscars? Well if you spoke Xhosa, you wouldn't have.

The Daily Show host was chosen to give the speech that introduced Black Panther as one of the nominees for Best Picture. But in his comments introducing the clip of the movie, Noah made a joke in Xhosa that nearly no one caught at first.

Some may not know Noah is from South Africa and speaks fluent Xhosa, a language spoken in most of the country. This also just happens to be the same language Marvel decided to use for Wakanda in Black Panther.

So with that connection made, Noah decided to go along with it and joke that he actually grew up in the fictional Wakanda.

"Growing up as a young boy in Wakanda, I would see T'Challa flying over our village, and he would remind me of a great Xhosa phrase," Noah said. "He says 'abelungu abazi uba ndiyaxoka' -- which means, 'In times like these, we are stronger when we fight together than when we try to fight apart.'"

But Noah actually fooled people, because apparently the phrase he spoke in Xhosa actually means, "White people don't know I'm lying."
